*Provides comprehensive care for our veteran population such as services in the diagnosis,care,
andtreatment of assigned patients.
*Provides medical treatment, consultation, and diagnosis upon request from otherServices/Departments.
*Obtains patient histories, performs physical exams, formulates a working diagnosis and develops/implements a treatment plan according to clinical guidelines and to determine appropriate hospitalization, and/or disposition to Nursing Home Care, Assisted Living,Community Nursing Home, and/or Home Care.
*Orders appropriate tests and incorporate results for treatment plan.
*Initiates or expedites requests for consults, special tests, or studies.
*Authorized to write both inpatientand outpatient medical orders, treatments and medications
*Provides education and counseling to patient and family in preventive care, medical conditions, and use of prescribed treatment and drugs.
*Provides cross coverage on patients in absence of other provider(s)
*Works with nurses to coordinate care in non-face to face settings
*Provides supervision/collaboration to mid-level provider as assigned/requested
*Participates in Peer reviews, chart reviews, hospital/clinic committees and Process improvement initiatives as assigned
*Utilizes proficient data-entry (typing) skills
*BLS certification required
This is a bargaining unit position.
Recruitment/Relocation incentive may be authorized for highly qualified candidates.
Periodic Saturday Extended Hour Coverage will be required.
Periodic on station patient coverage required from 6 AM to 6 pm, in rotation approximately 3 times a month based on coverage need.

*Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
*Must have a degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained froman institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are:
(1) Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year inwhich the degree was granted, or
(2) Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation(COCA) of the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degreewasgranted.
(3) For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, facility officials must verify with the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) that the applicant has met requirements for certification, and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certificate, if claimed by the applicant.
*Must possess a current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia
*Must have completed a residency training or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA Physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.)
Preferred Experience: Board Certification in Internal Medicine, Experience/Ability/Interest to teach trainees.
PHYSICIAN STAFF REQUIREMENTS:
Staff Physician: None beyond the basic requirements. The individual must qualify to perform duties as a physician, have completed an accredited residency and/or possess experience which has qualified the individual to perform general duties and some specialized functions and procedures without supervision. Staff physicians may also include attendings who train physician residents assigned in facilities with residency training programs, and consultants who are capable of giving authoritative views and opinions on subjects in their field of medicine.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
