The Department of Agriculture, Nutrition and Veterinary Science within the College of Agriculture, Biotechnology and Natural Resources (CABNR) at the University of Nevada, Reno invites applications for an assistant professor, tenure-track faculty position. The focus of this position is nutrient metabolism with an emphasis on human health. Expertise in cell biology, genetics, biochemistry, experimental genomics and/or microbiome is expected.
The successful candidate will establish an impactful, independent research program as evidenced by extramural funding and publications in recognized scholarly journals. In addition, the candidate will contribute to vibrant undergraduate and graduate academic programs through effective teaching; advising and mentoring students from diverse backgrounds; and assisting with curriculum assessment and development. The candidate will also be expected to participate in academic and professional service commensurate with rank; and contribute to the outreach mission of this Land-Grant Institution. Collaborative efforts with faculty within CABNR, Cooperative Extension, and/or the School of Medicine are anticipated.

Required Qualifications This position requires a minimum of a PhD in nutrition or a related field and demonstrated ability to conduct research in nutrient metabolism.
Preferred Qualifications Postdoctoral research experience; evidence of independent and collaborative research activities; publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals; and success in securing extramural funding. Evidence of effective teaching at a college/university; and advising students from culturally diverse backgrounds.

This multi-disciplinary department offers programs in agriculture, nutrition, veterinary science and rangeland ecology and management. Our mission reflects a commitment to excellence, innovation, and diversity while meeting the needs of the citizens of the State of Nevada and the Nation. Currently, undergraduate nutrition enrollment is ~200 with students pursing either dietetics or nutritional science specializations. We also offer an MS in Nutrition and are working toward a PhD program. The Department helps to meet the state’s need for health professionals through two accredited dietetic programs; participation in the School of Medicine’s BS/MD Program; and by providing a strong science foundation for students seeking admission to allied professional schools. Departmental, college and university resources are consistent with that of a Tier 1 status earned by the University of Nevada, Reno.
