Saint Luke’s Health System includes 12 hospitals (1,000 beds) and cares for two million residents in 67 counties in Missouri and Kansas. The health system offers the region’s longest continuously operating adult heart transplant program, and one of the nation’s leading cardiovascular disease outcome research programs. Saint Luke’s offers treatment for complex brain and spinal cord diseases, as well as the nation’s leading stroke reversal program dedicated to preventing and treating stroke.
Saint Luke’s Physician Group (SLPG) was redesigned in 2014 by a 65-member physician committee comprised of representatives from Saint Luke’s Medical Group, Saint Luke’s Cardiology Consultants, and Saint Luke’s Physician Specialists. The overarching goals of forming a single, physician-led, multispecialty physician enterprise for all employed physicians include better communications; improved program development; expanded service offerings; greater strategic influence; best practice sharing; enhanced physician leadership development; and enhancement of future success and sustainability regardless of payment model. Today, SLPG is a network of 450 employed physicians within eight clinical divisions, including primary care, specialty care, surgical services, neurosciences, cardiovascular, oncology, hospital medicine and anesthesiology.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will provide strategic, financial and operational oversight and direction for the physician group, while ensuring excellence in patient care and satisfaction. This collaborative, team-oriented and operationally focused leader will be well versed in aligning physician and health system strategies, managing physician practices and growth strategies, physician contracting, physician recruitment initiatives and healthcare economics related to physician organizations of the future. The CEO will advance the integration of physician and health system services and operations that support Saint Luke’s Health System Vision 2020 strategic objectives, which reflect the current mission while preparing the physician enterprise and health system for a successful future in a changing healthcare environment.
The selected candidate will possess 10 years of leadership experience in a complex health system with considerable time leading medical group practice activities. The ideal candidate will be a physician leader who possesses practice, growth and development experience. He/she will have a successful track record in clinical practice and a deep understanding of medical group operations. This inspirational leader will have the ability to develop, empower and teach others while holding them accountable for results. He/she will have a track record of achieving results, through influence and not through leverage, in a matrixed healthcare system.
