The primary function of the Clinical Research Associate II is within the, CLIA-certified, Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory. The individual will perform molecular diagnostic tests for the detection of genetic alterations in patients affected with neuromuscular disorders and other rare disorders affecting children and adults. Knowledge of next gen sequencing (NGS) techniques for large gene panels is required. They are also responsible for interpretation and reporting of diagnostic test results and maintenance of a patient sample database. The CRAII will also assist in the development of new molecular techniques, collect data, and determine the performance of new technology. Contribution in all laboratory meetings, lab related functions, scientific meetings, and manuscript preparation. Active participation in a committee and/or departmental duty is expected when available.
Responsible for participation in departmental and hospital programs for Quality Assessment and Improvement, identifying opportunities to improve services, making recommendations and implementing actions as appropriate and consistent with the goals of the Nemours Foundation.
Perform and interpret diagnostic test data in the Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory.
Follow all aspects of SOP’s in the conduct of patient diagnostic testing.
Perform testing using a range of molecular biological, biochemical and cell biological techniques under the direction of the Laboratory Head and/or Assistant Director of the Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory.
Assist with maintenance and operations in the laboratory in which these tests occur.
Track and request payment for all purchased services regarding this testing.
Data analysis and the production of oral and written reports.
Participation in team meetings at which the work will be discussed and planned.
Participation in collaborative projects with the Musculoskeletal Inherited Disease Lab.
Setup and maintain databases for diagnostic testing and results.
Comply with safety policies specified by departmental and hospital regulations to ensure a safe work environment and prevent potential safety hazards.
Bachelors in biology, genetics, biochemistry or related field required;
At least 3 years of research experience required
Knowledge of basic molecular/genetic techniques, research methodology and experience with NGS techniques;
Computer literacy required.
