POSITION SUMMARY: Manages the Accounting department to ensure that it is providing effective and efficient service. This individual is responsible for the oversight of the Accounting operations including monthly, quarterly and year end processes. Works closely with the CFO and executive team with respect to providing support for strategic planning, financial oversight and financial leadership.
POSITIONS SUPERVISED: Accounting Manager, Senior Financial Analyst and Financial Analyst
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: a. Effectively manages the Accounting department, providing leadership, direction, and coordination. Ensures adequate planning and resources for each Accounting function. b. Supervises and provides leadership to the Accounting staff, including hiring, training, coaching, performance reviews, goal setting, and team building. c. Conducts the Counseling and Corrective Action process when employee is out of compliance with performance or attendance. d. Effectively coordinates Accounting functions with other support departments such as the Business Office, Human Resources, Information Services, and Materials Management. e. Assures that financial reporting is accurate, timely, meets GAAP standards, and that the General Ledger structure provides necessary information to management. In addition oversight of monthly and annual financial reporting including preparation of memos and presentations to board and partnership. f. Performs monthly closing functions to assure accurate and timely integration of accounts receivable transactions with the general ledger. Investigates and resolves any integration errors. g. Prepares monthly revenue and accounts receivable reporting in the prescribed format. Analyzes trends, investigates unusual variances and summarizes the monthly results for management. h. Assures the reasonableness of allowances and reserves for Accounts Receivable following established criteria. i. Prepares and summarizes Risk Contract Accounting according to GAAP and internal reporting requirements. Provide estimates of savings and/or payback per risk contracts. j. Oversees the management of benefit plans with the Human Resources department. Oversees internal control over all benefit transactions. Assures that retirement contributions are accurate and adhere to IRS, ERISA, and retirement plan requirements. Assures compliance with all audit and 5500 returns requirements, coordinating with contractors and auditors effectively. k. Manages the Accounting operations to assure timely and accurate payment of partnership obligations. Oversees the annual financial audit and review of internal controls by the independent CPA firm. Ensures deadlines and requirements are met during the audit process. Assures that all work papers, electronic files, and documentation are accurate and available to the auditors. l. Manages the coordination of the preparation and filing of all tax returns for the partnership and distributes all K-1 schedules and other documentation as required to the partners. m. Assists the CFO in the management of the IDP operations. n. Provides effective management to the budget operations. Plans and coordinates the annual budget process with the CFO and COO. Communicates deadlines and requirements to all staff involved in the budget process. Assures that the consolidated budget provides a reasonable expectation of future operations. Provides detailed monthly variance analysis to assist Management in control of operations. o. Assures adequate documentation of all policies and procedures for Accounting operations. p. Provides effective project management for the implementation of new or upgraded accounting software, technologies, or functions. q. Assures timely and accurate response to all requests for information and analysis from management and physicians. r. Attend IDP and Finance Committee meetings providing analysis as requested s. Review and finalize quarterly/annual loan covenants t. Exhibits computer systems knowledge and proficiency as necessary to perform job functions. u. Demonstrates the attitudes and behaviors of The South Bend Clinic Service Standards. v. Performs other duties as assigned when appropriate. w. Adheres to HIPAA guidelines set forth in Clinic policies and procedures.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS Education/Certification/License: CPA or MBA required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 8+ years of progressive management experience in a health care setting required. 3 years in public accounting experience preferred.
