Valley Children's Healthcare is seeking a Manager of Interpreter Services to lead the department. Valley Children’s Interpreters are an important part of the team approach in bridging the communication barrier to its limited and non-English speaking patients and families. The accuracy in which an interpreter conveys the content and spirit of what is said and that of having a non-judgmental attitude toward every one present, aids in the overall healing of our patients. The Manager is responsible for the overall day-to-day management of the care and services provided by the department and its related operation.
Position Details and Responsibilities:
Provide general oversight of the department operations
Accountable for direction, supervision, and planning of interpreter services throughout the continuum
Responsible for position control and appropriate staffing
Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, as well as development of best practice and service benchmarks in the area of linguistically appropriate services
Manage contracts with vendors including interpreting agencies, telephonic and video, and translation services
Serve as a consultant to the organization and community on language access and cultural competency
Under the guidance of the Director, the Interpreter Services Manager identifies and develops effective working relationships with clinical providers to ensure patient and family language needs are met
Bachelor's degree in Business, Healthcare Administration or related field required
A minimum two (2) years leadership experience with oversight of a department providing services to consumers presenting with limited English proficiency required
Bilingual in Spanish is preferred
Ability to be self-directed and work effectively within a team environment while demonstrating innovation and initiative
Individual will possess strong interpersonal skills and be able to communicate effectively with a large volunteer based staff, internal staff, and contract personnel
Possess strong organization, project and time management skills, with the ability to realign priorities as situations warrant and effectively manage larger quantities of information
