High school diploma and a minimum of 2 years of acute care medical records coding experience required. Associates and/or Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management preferred. Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Outpatient Coder (COC) credential required. Responsible for accurate coding of all Same Day Surgery, Outpatient and Emergency Department service diagnoses and conditions, working from the appropriate documentation in the medical record of the patient. All work is carried out in accordance with the department's approved policies and procedures. Responsible for abstracting key elements of information from each medical record and entering it into the specialized information system. Knowledge of 3M Coding and Reimbursement and Microsoft Office tools preferred. Must be able to communicate effectively.
