Children’s Hospital & Medical Center Omahais seeking a motivated and energetic individual to serve as its chief human resource officer (CHRO). Reporting to the chief executive officer, the CHRO will provide leadership of human resource strategy in support of the organization’s strategic plans, with responsibility for the development and implementation of programs in the areas of compensation, benefits, talent management, the employee health clinic, succession planning, and organizational development. The CHRO serves as a member of the Executive Council and as an advisor to the organization on human resource issues, and will provide staff support and guidance to the Compensation and Human Resources Committee of the board of directors.
The CHRO will be supported by six direct reports, with a total staff of 33. The Human Resource team is responsible for supporting 3,000 full- and part-time staff (2,383 FTEs); by 2025, however, Children’s anticipates having a workforce of 4,000 to support Hubbard Center for Children, a new inpatient tower.
In the current healthcare climate of increased competition, dynamically shifting markets, and associated regulatory requirements, the CHRO will be essential to the successful growth and profitability of Children’s Hospital & Medical Center. Along with the CEO, the CHRO will be at the vortex of defining and cultivating the organization’s culture and driving its talent agenda, which will be critical to meeting current objectives and the goals of Vision 2025. The CHRO’s role – to develop leaders, attract and grow talent, and create a culture of engaged employees in a dynamic environment – will make or break the organization’s ability to meet aggressive performance targets.
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in human resources or a related field is required; a master’s degree is preferred
A minimum of five years of relevant vice president- or C-level experience is required
Professional certification at the SPHR level is preferred
Strong familiarity with HR tech and a data-driven mindset; departmental and enterprise-wide business software implementation experience; experience with Oracle healthcare products is helpful
High-volume and rapid expansion talent acquisition strategy and implementation experience
Experience successfully leading workforce development strategies and implementation
Leadership development strategy and implementation experience
Employee engagement strategy and implementation experience, with a track record of improving employee engagement and satisfaction
Departmental and enterprise-wide restructuring experience, with accompanying organizational assessment and development; a track record of successfully merging divisions and/or departments is strongly desired
Succession planning strategy and implementation experience
A compensation and benefits architect and strategist with a track record of developing innovative compensation and benefits structures
Employee health and wellness strategy and implementation experience, with a track record of developing innovative health and wellness strategies
Diversity and inclusion strategy and implementation experience, with a track record of developing innovative strategies
Change readiness strategy and implementation experience, with a track record of instilling change readiness
Successfully managing P&L and HR strategy alignment with business economics, as related to the organization’s strategic plan
Experience working with a board of directors
Serving as a collaborative partner and senior advisor to a CEO
Celebrating and preserving culture
Being innovative and “staying out front”
Successfully understanding and navigating a complicated regulatory framework
