This position assumes leadership for the accuracy of outpatient clinical documentation and charging, education with the Clinical Departments, and root cause correction to support accurate coding and charging in compliance with Hospital/Health System policies or regulatory requirements. The position assists clinical areas to effectively document services and connects the relationship of documentation, coding and charging for the services provided. The Coordinator provides education and training of staff on clinical documentation, coding and charging for services in accordance with Hospital/Health System policies and procedures.
Competencies and Skills:
Demonstrates skilled ability and comfort with electronic medical records and hospital billing functions (EPIC experience preferred). Advanced skills in analyzing clinical documentation.
General understanding of hospital-based outpatient charging, coding, and/or revenue capture functions preferred.
Knowledge of APCs and OPPS reimbursement structures preferred.
Possesses strong interpersonal skills, with demonstrated success at communicating effectively with all levels of the organization, especially clinical department heads, clinical staff, and senior leadership.
Demonstrates competence in organizational, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
Must be able to work and communicate effectively in a team environment.
Possesses strong project management skills.
Strong problem solving and investigative skills.
Demonstrates ability to work independently.
Knowledge of and ability to use personal computers or workstations.Proficient with personal computer applications (Excel, Word, and Power Point).
Education and or Experience:
RN, LPN, RHIT or other coding certification preferred.
Minimum of three years related experience of healthcare knowledge typically obtained from experience as a clinical caregiver or clinical manager, coder, coding analyst, and/or revenue management/cycle professional staff member.
Bachelor's degree preferred. Appropriate years of related experience may be considered in lieu of advanced degree.
