This position is located in the Office of Medical Services (OMS), the Office of Health Services (OHS) at Peace Corps Headquarters. Under the direction of the OHS Associate Director, the Director of OMS, provides medical expertise and leadership to medical staff, administers the medical program, and serves as a liaison with outside agencies and organizations. The Incumbent is responsible for setting medical policy for Peace Corps, provide oversight to the medical care and services provided to Peace Corps Invitees, Trainees, Volunteers, and returned Volunteers. These services include medical screening of Invitees, field support and technical guidance of overseas staff, case management for medically evacuated Volunteers, and assistance to returned Peace Corps Volunteers in evaluation and treatment of service-related conditions including applying for Workers' Compensation benefits.
Peace Corps is looking for a physician to serve as the Director of Peace Corps’ Office of Medical Services. The Director is responsible for leading a diverse staff of medical professionals in managing a comprehensive health care program for approximately 7100 Peace Corps Volunteers and Trainees in 61 countries around the world serving in austere environments. Degree from Foreign Medical School: A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must provide education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (external link), a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.
For all grade levels and positions, applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
