The Public Health/Preventive Medicine Residency Program at the New York City Department of Health & Mental Hygiene (NYC DOHMH) is currently recruiting candidates for July 2020. We welcome residents and fellows who are interested in and passionate about population-based health.

For over half a century, the NYC DOHMH Program has provided trainees a unique learning opportunity at one of the largest public health departments in the United States. This two-year program combines applied public health field experience with studies toward the Master of Public Health (MPH) degree. Graduates of the program practice in both clinical and non-clinical capacities in a variety of settings, including governmental and non-governmental agencies, academics, private industry, and the non-profit sector. 

Our program seeks to recruit highly qualified applicants who have completed at least 1 year of clinical training, with preference given to those who have completed a full residency prior to applying to Preventive Medicine.  Candidates must also be eligible to apply for a New York State medical license. We are currently accepting applications until December 20, 2019, through the ERAS system or via email at healthrp@health.nyc.gov.  We are happy to answer your questions about preventive medicine residency training or schedule a presentation for your residency program.  We look forward to hearing from you.

Possession of a valid license to practice medicine in the State of New York and current registration  to practice as a Physician in the State of New York; this license and registration must be obtained  within 90 days of appointment to the title; and 
1.  Completion of at least one (1) year of clinical training in a medical specialty at an ACGME  accredited program; and 
2.  Possess a Masters of Public Health degree from an accredited college or university; or 
3.  Must be admitted to the Masters of Public Health Program at the City University of New  York or other accredited school of public health as designated by the Department of Health  and Mental Hygiene. 

For Assignment to Level II 
a.  Upon  satisfactory  completion  of  one  year  of  training  and  service  as  a  Public  Health/Preventive Medicine Resident Assignment Level I, employees shall be assigned to  Assignment Level II; or  
b.  To be appointed directly to Assignment Level II, candidates must have, in addition to  meeting  the  “Qualification  Requirements”  under  “For  Assignment  Level  I”  above,  successfully  completed  all  requirements  of  the  first  year  of  the  Preventive  Medicine  Residency at an ACGME?accredited program.
