JOB TITLE: Network Infrastructure Operations Engineer, Intermediate LOCATION: Geisinger Medical Center Hospital DEPARTMENT: IT Network Infrastructure Support WORK SCHEDULE: Days WORK TYPE: Full Time (1.0 FTE) JOB SUMMARY: Work as part of a team of professionals that is responsible for the 24x7 availability of Geisinger's 30,000+ node, 150+ site converged voice & data network. Responsible for installation and ongoing maintenance of network equipment and the systems required to manage and maintain Geisinger’s network infrastructure. Deliver these IT services at agreed upon levels. The NIOE Intermediate is expected to perform the essential job functions with minimal supervision of more senior team members. Assist the NIO Team Lead or Senior Engineer in developing and refining policies, procedures, & documentation. COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS: Must have a working knowledge of copper and fiber optic cable specifications and experience with termination and testing procedures. Must have a working knowledge of networking fundamentals for routing, switching, and firewalling in a complex LAN/WAN/WLAN/VoIP environment. Must have a working knowledge of Network Management Tools. Must have good interpersonal and communication (both verbal and written) skills. Must be able to interoperate with other IT disciplines within the organization. Must be able to prioritize a variety of tasks. Must work effectively on their own, but also work well in a team environment. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Minimal supervision is required. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s degree in in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering or a related field with networking content; or Technical diploma / technical certification (CCENT or equivalent) in a field related to the position required. Minimum of three years of experience. OR In lieu of degree or certification, minimum of five years of experience in network administration, computer science, system engineering, or a similar field required. ITIL Foundations or higher-level certification preferred but not required. Industry certifications in networking, cable and fiber plants are a plus. Experience with: Network Management tools such as SolarWinds Orion, NetBrain, Cisco Prime Infrastructure, Infoblox DDI
Network Performance Management tools such as NetScout, nGeniusONE, StatSeeker VoIP management systems such as Cisco Call Manager, Cairs, Switch Expert are a plus. WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work is typically performed in an office environment, network communications closets and datacenters.
Ability to lift moderately heavy equipment and climb ladders while working in ceilings and cable trays.
Current Pennsylvania Driver's License required. Traveling to other Geisinger Health System locations will be necessary.
