JOB TITLE: Associate Sterile Processing Technician LOCATION: Geisinger Medical Center Hospital DEPARTMENT: Central Sterile Supply WORK SCHEDULE: Days/Evenings WORK TYPE: Full Time JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for the preparation, care, sterilization and/or transportation of medical and/or surgical instruments, packs, supplies and equipment. Performs duties to support the goals and objectives of Geisinger in its efforts to provide quality patient care and patient satisfaction. Works under the supervision of the Supervisor, Central Sterile Supply. Duties may vary by site. COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS: Demonstrates good hand/eye coordination. Demonstrates ability to perform arithmetic calculations and communicate effectively. Demonstrates ability to maintain a good working relationship with coworkers and other department staff. Demonstrates a willingness to work in a team environment. Shows flexibility and resourcefulness when faced with unforeseen circumstances and is available for additional duties within the scope of practice. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: High school equivalent or GED required. Certified Registered Central Sterile Technician (CRCST) or recognized equivalent certification must be obtained within 12 months of hire. Additional 90-day extension may be granted to attain certification. *Current employees with a minimum of 5 years of sterile processing experience as of 1/1/18 will be grandfathered and are not required to attain the CRCST certification, although it is still highly encouraged. Employees are not eligible to move to the Sterile Processing Tech if the certification is not attained. WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Extensive periods of standing to perform most duties and bending, stooping, pushing sterilizer carriages and lifting up to 45 pounds is involved.
