The Center for Health Equity & Community Wellness (CHECW) aims to eliminate racial inequities resulting in premature mortality, with a focus on chronic disease, by addressing the social and environmental factors that impact health. CHECW is comprised of the Bureau of Brooklyn Neighborhood Health, the Bureau of Bronx Neighborhood Health, the Bureau of Harlem Neighborhood Health, the Bureau of Chronic Disease Prevention, the Bureau of Health Equity Capacity Building, the Bureau of Equitable Health Systems and the Bureau of Finance, Administration, and Services. Under the direction of the Deputy Commissioner for the Center for Health Equity & Community Wellness, the Director will be responsible for providing leadership and vision for the Center's communications, policy, and external affairs. The Director will work across the division and across the agency to ensure a coordinated approach to our external facing products and policy items. DUTIES WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO: As the Director, duties include but are not limited to: --Research proactive and reactive strategies to implement an integrated communications and external affairs plan that advances CHECW priorities, broadens awareness of its programs and policy priorities, and increases CHECW visibility across key stakeholder audiences. --Analyze data on and assess relationships with targeted, high-level external audiences, including community partners, media, and key influencers; use analysis to create a public relations strategy that will allow CHECW leadership to cultivate and enhance meaningful division wide and external partner relationships. --Investigate and probe challenges and emerging issues faced by the organization and work with leadership to recognize internal and external opportunities and solutions; define and test appropriate strategies to support them. --Identify quantitative and qualitative metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of communications and policy strategies. --Provide strategic leadership, guidance, and execute approval for the division in the areas including but not limited to communications products, reports, outreach materials, media campaigns, videos, social media, and policy and legislative agenda items. --Liaise with the Department's Office of External Affairs Division to pitch stories, maximize media coverage, and enhance visibility of the Center's programs and policies; use strategies to reach varied audiences and channels including but not limited to: web, social media, earned media, search engine optimizations, collateral, events, community boards, community-based organizations, co-located partners, etc.. --Develop talking points and brief Deputy Commissioner for City Council and other health related hearings; manage the Division's legislative agenda process and ensure that policy agenda items are moving forward beyond the legislative agenda season; maintain briefing sheets on elected officials of interest at the local/state/federal level. • Provide direct supervision for 2 staff members to support execution of unit activities. Preferred Skills A working knowledge of government and experience working in CHE and or PPC. 2+ years experience in a community-based organization, higher education, non-profit, or corporate setting, or equivalent combination of education and experience, with extensive experience in managing communications and policy efforts. Strong knowledge of anti-racism, gender equity, intersectionality, and trauma informed principles. Strong collaboration and organizing skills. Trained in meeting design, preparation, and facilitation. Excellent interpersonal, communication, presentation, strategic, organizational, management and systems skills. Strong relationship management and project management skills. Proven ability to plan and implement programs with quantifiable results.
