Cedars-Sinai Medical Center (CSMC), one of the nation’s premier healthcare institutions, seeks a distinguished anesthesiology leader to provide strategic and operational leadership to its Department of Anesthesiology. The Department has grown significantly in clinical and academic scope, playing a key role in Cedars-Sinai’s rise to the top tier of health systems nationwide.
Jointly reporting to the Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty (for academic and research issues) and the Executive Vice President, Health System and Hospital Operations and Chief Operating Officer, Cedars-Sinai (for operational and quality issues), the new Department Chair will be engaged by Cedars-Sinai as a member of the full-time faculty. The Chair will also be a member of Cedars-Sinai executive management group. The Department includes more than 120 anesthesiologists, who have recently transitioned from a private practice group into an academic department managed by Cedars-Sinai. Its residency and fellowship programs, with over 70 physicians-in-training, are highly competitive and widely sought.
The Chair has strategic and fiscal oversight for the administration, clinical, research, and education agendas and programs within the Department. The Chair should further foster a sound research agenda for the Department in the spirit of Cedars-Sinai’s interdisciplinary research environment. They will be expected to actively support and promote patient safety, continuous performance and quality improvement, risk management, and efficient resource utilization linked to evidence-based medicine. The Chair will attract, mentor, and develop both clinical and research-focused physicians within the Department, fostering excellence in patient care, teaching, and scholarship. In addition, the Chair has operational oversight for the residency and fellowship programs within the Department and drives coordination and collaboration to ensure excellent clinical care.
The next Chair will have an exceptional opportunity to lead the Department’s maturation, achieving top decile levels of performance through the creation of a collaborative culture and operating philosophy that effectively melds together all members of the Department into a committed and fully aligned unit. This effort will be facilitated by all the resources of the academic enterprise and the full support of the Dean/ Executive Vice President. The enrichment and expansion of the Department’s clinical and research programs will be further enabled by the enthusiastic cooperation of other department chairs and institute directors.
