As the Hospital Administrator, you must develop and execute customer-focused business and operations strategies that respond to unique market factors such as regional and community needs, demographics, competitors, employer characteristics, and consumer expectations. These plans must effectively integrate with, influence, leverage, and be consistent with CH Regional strategies, investments, approaches, processes, and capabilities. The plans also must support Community Benefit and other community outreach and support activities.

WVH 20-bed acute care and rehab hospital with an emergency room
Outpatient primary and specialty care services daily operational needs in a 12,000 square mile service area including 300 physicians and 150 APPs.
Overall regional strategies to ensure that the hospital and Confluence Health are positioned to optimize performance in terms of quality, service, affordability, and the best place to work. The ability to deliver high levels of customer, staff and physician satisfaction and engagement are key performance measures. The Hospital Administrator must ensure a fiscally sound operation capable of generating required quality, service, and financial performance.
Director of Nursing Services
Serves as the Nursing Administrator. Responsible to the Chief Operating Officer for providing overall nursing leadership and establishing nursing goals within the framework of the hospital goals and objectives. Oversees patient care provided in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Provides leadership for development and implementation of methods, including LEAN techniques, to maintain and provide the quality of patient care. The Nursing Administrator directs day-to-day administration of the nursing department through delegation of authority and responsibility.
HOSPITAL ADMINISTRATOR ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Strategic Planning & Leadership: Works with CH executive team, hospital leadership team and other leaders across the organization to develop, implement, and maintain strategic plans and activities that meet, and align with, the needs and goals of the hospital, outpatient practices and CH. Formulates and leads the planning and implementation of hospital and associated systems to achieve the goals of the overall strategic plans of CH. Makes key presentations to health system leadership groups, is an active member of the senior management team. Keeps current with the latest emerging healthcare issues and brings those to the table in all relevant discussion forums & planning events.
Staff and Department Management: Provides leadership to hospital managers, directors and others that will enroll support, create ownership of goals, and encourage active participation in decisions that impact the hospital. Conducts performance evaluations and recommends increases, promotions and disciplinary actions. Working with CH System Leadership, develops hospital goals and plans designed to attain agreed upon goals. Develops policies and procedures affecting the hospital and audit procedures in order to determine need for change/modifications. Works closely with the Human Resources staff to proactively address staff and provider concerns.
Operations Management: Plans acquisition of capital, personnel and materials which are adequate to effectively and efficiently achieve hospital services goals and objectives including the development and implementation of new hospital services. Responsible for planning, coordinating, and prioritizing all operational activities in the hospital and outpatient areas to ensure that service levels are met or exceeded. Communicates priorities and interaction with all hospital and CH users and others to ensure the timely achievement of operational requirements, as directed by the strategic plan. Coordinates and integrates activities with the inpatient and outpatient management team, Medical Staff, and other health system departments as needed regarding operational, and quality/patient experience (in conjunction with the COO and CMO) improvements.
Customer Service, Advisory/Communication: Provides proactive advice, counsel and services to the management and employees. Prepares and presents performance measurements to management and executives. Participates in key health system departmental meetings to improve communications and align service expectations with current plans. Works with departments to ensure that productivity measurement tools are being used, productivity improvement efforts are implemented and the associated benefits realized. Provides the best possible customer service. Explains and communicates health system and hospital philosophy, strategic goals, policies and standards to employees, medical staff, hospital administration and others across the health system and the broader system of care in the region.
Projects: Manages complex projects as assigned and is responsible for successful completion within budget. Works with the system Vice President of Facilities on facility planning, construction, and remodeling projects related to strategic needs.
Budgeting: Develops and proactively manages budgets and business plans and monitors performance as necessary and appropriate. Approves expenditures against the budget. Responsible for budgets of new projects under administrative responsibilities. Works closely with the system CFO to monitor financial performance and addresses variances. Establishes and maintains programs for systematic, continuous evaluation of and utilization of department resources.
Professional Development: Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations. Keeps abreast of developments in the field and arranges staff training programs to improve and/or enhance skills and techniques.
Works closely with system and hospital managers and staff to ensure that effective teamwork and communication are always in place. Works to eliminate any walls and barriers throughout the organization.
Establishes collaborative working relationships with all physicians, administrators, managers and staff and strives to provide the highest value care, maximizing the patient/family experience.

DIRECTOR OF NURSING SERVICES ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Participates in the development of hospital-wide patient care programs, and policies and procedures that describe how the care needs of patients or patient populations are assessed, evaluated, and met. Delegates the responsibility to ensure that policies and procedures, and standards of care/practice are reviewed and revised as required by change in practice and in accordance with accreditation and licensing agencies. Interprets and enforces policies in accordance with the current regulations of Washington State Department of Health, CMS guidelines, Joint Commission, and other regulatory agencies. Ensures the development and implementation of a patient care delivery system that takes into consideration the patient acuity to deliver high quality, cost-effective care.
Leads the development and implementation of the Hospital Plan for Patient Services. Collaborates with clinical directors to define the hospital's plan for patient services.
Participates with management, medical staff, and other clinical leaders in decision making structures and processes of the hospital. Communicates with non-patient care department directors to coordinate, analyze, and evaluate nursing and related services rendered to patients. Consults and represents nursing on various medical staff, clinical, quality, and leadership committees.
Establishes performance standards with which to measure effectiveness and efficiency of nursing department personnel and activities. Monitors staffing patterns and trends for appropriate skill mix and number of qualified personnel to deliver high quality, cost effective care through continuous improvements utilizing Lean principles.
Responsible for implementing effective and ongoing programs to measure, assess, and improve the quality of nursing care delivered to patients.
Selects, directs, and evaluates all members of the nursing leadership to ensure qualified, competent directors.
Serves as a member - or leads - committees and teams as requested and participates in community outreach as appropriate.
Establishes and maintains programs for systematic, continuous evaluation of and utilization of department resources in responsible areas. Is a content expert in the areas responsible for, and as such, is aware of industry trends and best practice.
Promotes positive visitor, family, medical staff and co-worker relations.

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required.
Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in Washington State.
Bachelor’s degree in nursing or related field.
Requires a Masters Degree in Hospital Administration or its equivalent.
The successful candidate must have proven experience as a functional leader in a large, complex inpatient and outpatient healthcare organization.
Candidate must demonstrate proven success and experience in operations, planning, contracting, and medical staff relations.
Must have a minimum of seven (7) years of administrative experience with a broad-based understanding of all aspects of related legal/regulatory issues;
Current Confluence Employees: Six (6) years management experience with three (3) years of senior level administrative experience at Confluence Health. Completion of CHVS Certification.
Minimum of ten (10) years of health care management experience including an understanding of outpatient clinical practices.
