Job Description: The Chief Development Officer will be responsible for helping to shape USPIï¿½s inorganic growth strategy, for developing and cultivating USPI business interests, and health system/physician group relationships. The focus of this position will be to analyze and assess market M&A conditions, identify industry valuation trends, monitor competitor behavior, assess existing and new partner growth needs and expectations and develop an aggressive growth strategy to continue to scale the business through: expanding in existing markets, developing a dedicated strategy for 2-way partnerships with physicians, including De Novos and acquisitions, adding new prominent health system partnerships, executing entry into attractive new markets and acquiring and/or developing high quality surgical facilities in priority markets.
While the role is based in Dallas, travel will likely be extensive and much of this individualï¿½s work will be conducted in the field in order to effectively execute the growth plan as well as continue to enhance existing and new partnerships and relationships. Creativity, innovation, self-reliance, and an intuitive sense of deal pace and momentum are keys to success in this position. Experience driving small and large M&A transactions and de novo development will be necessary experience and expertise. In addition, oneï¿½s ability to effectively assess and prioritize strategic opportunities for USPIï¿½s involvement along with skillful management of the relationships involved, will add to the efficiency and reduced cycle-time in getting complex, enterprise-level transactions finalized. Assessing the market opportunity and building / managing a team to capture the opportunity is a critical part of the job.
The Chief Development Officerï¿½s essential duties and responsibilities will include the following:
Develop and prepare short-term and long-range development plans and budgets based on corporate goals and objectives and recommends their adoption to members of the Executive Team. This includes responsibility for developing a pipeline of acquisitions that meet the objectives of USPI and Tenet.
Partner with business leaders before, during and after the M&A processes, to ensure the deals make strategic sense, fit with forward-looking business plans, and are integrated smoothly and fully optimized.
Build, manage, and lead the USPI development team. Develop a robust M&A pipeline management process.
Reviews annual business plans and articulates company capabilities and limitations and recommends development strategies for existing and new markets.
Develops and guides due diligence and negotiations for new opportunities as well as ensuring the accurate and timely valuation of acquisition targets.
Interfaces and communicates effectively with all company departments.
Evaluates general and specific business conditions and keeps executive team informed on these matters, as well as participates with other Executives in developing strategy and corporate objectives and plans for their achievement, including key investment criteria and thresholds.
Directs and organizes activities to achieve or exceed budgeted results and other financial criteria to enhance the growth and value of the company.
Provide effective decision framework to the Executive Leadership Team to assess the quality of potential acquisitions and De Novo development projects.
Ensures there is a thoughtful, robust and effective integration process is in place for new health system partners, acquisitions and De Novos.
Ensure post acquisition synergies and expected performance targets are met during and after the business integration period.

The Chief Development Officer will possess a Bachelorï¿½s, and an MBA or relevant graduate degree is preferred.
The successful candidate will have been recognized for excellence in executing his/her national development responsibilities and corporate management duties in a comparably large and complex organization.
This individual must exhibit and cultivate an uncompromising customer service and partnership orientation that recognizes excellent time management capabilities, versatile oral and written communication skills and be comfortable working with and managing physician and health system partnersï¿½ needs and expectations.
Experience working with non-profit health systems whose recognition and reputation for excellence and quality place them at or near the top of the U.S. healthcare delivery system. In addition, experience in a high-growth, for-profit company is an advantage, as is direct experience with companies providing ambulatory surgical services or hospital services.
