The staff Opthalmologist works under the Opthalmology service for the Abilene County Community Based Outreach Clinic (CBOC) providing patient care to a diverse Veteran population. he staff ophthalmologist has a shared responsibility for operations of the facility Ophthalmology program. Specifically, they are responsible to: 1. Ensure appropriate processes are used for credentialing and granting privileges to Ophthalmology professionals. 2. Review and recommend appropriate sharing agreements, service agreements and inter-facility agreements. 3. Serve as local liaison to Ophthalmology professional organizations, government agencies, Non-VA service providers, and other departments within the facility. 4. Ensure appropriate documentation and accurate coding of completed Ophthalmology procedures based on the VHA Ophthalmology Coding Standards and Requirements which are found on the Ophthalmology Reporting and Analytics website. 5. Ensure the appropriate scope of care is provided for Ophthalmology patients. 6. Work with local leadership to develop and publish Ophthalmology policy and procedures that conform to the dictates of the National Criteria and Standards for Ophthalmology Program, VHA Handbook 1130.01. This Ophthalmology Services Policy and Procedure Manual must be readily available to all Ophthalmology personnel. 7. Make determinations on the clinical aspects of Ophthalmology eligibility. 8. Responsible for administration of the Outpatient Fee Ophthalmology program including review of treatment plans for approval/disapproval, and adjustment of submitted fees consistent with the Schedule of Maximum Allowances for Fee Ophthalmology Services. The Schedule of Maximum Allowances must be reviewed at least annually. The Ophthalmologist shall be proficient in all aspects of Ophthalmology including the ability to perform selected specialty services. Specifically, the provider should possess the expertise and competency to perform the following: 1. Perform routine and complex examinations on the eyes. 2. Diagnose optical concerns with patients appropriately. 3. Perform simple and complex optical surgeries. 4. Administer medications and/or sedate properly with optical surgeries. 5. Perform laser, biopsies, and other routine surgical procedures. 6. Perform any prosthetic Ophthalmology procedures or enter consults appropriately. 7. Perform routine endodontic procedures on single and multi-canal teeth. 8. Perform compensation and pension (C&P) exams when needed. 9. Patient care is performed in the Ophthalmology Clinic at the Big Spring campus of WTVAHCS. 10. Perform assigned administrative duties required for operation of West Texas VA Health Care System (WTVAHCS) Ophthalmology Service. NOTE: this announcement will remain open until filled or until closed at the request of management. Applicants received by December 11, 2020 will be considered the first cutoff and applications received after this date will be referred weekly or at the request of management. The scope of practice that a specific provider may perform is defined through the WTVAHCS credentialing and privileging process. Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases. Paid Time Off: 49-54 days paid time off per year (26 days annual leave, 13 days' sick leave, 10 federal holidays). Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years' vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA. Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement). Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory. CME: Possible $1,000 per year stipend + possible 1 week paid authorized absence to attend.
