The position includes outpatient work seeing patients in VA clinics throughout the Pacific Islands VA system. This includes work at the main VA clinic in Honolulu and travel to cover pulmonary clinics on neighboring islands. The clinical duties of this position include serving as an attending pulmonologist, performing outpatient consultations and follow up clinics, interpreting results of common pulmonary and sleep tests, teaching medical students, and supervising residents in clinics. Strong outpatient pulmonary clinic skills, including evaluation and management of patients with sleep apnea is desirable. The position also includes providing medical oversight to respiratory therapy clinics, such as home oxygen clinics and CPAP follow up clinics.
