Lead Communications Specialist (Physician Digital Content and Engagement)
We're seeking a medical/science editor with a digital-first orientation, collaborative spirit and eagerness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment at one of the nation's leading academic medical centers.
The lead communications specialist/physician digital content and engagement develops and leads execution of content strategies to support defined priorities and goals in physician engagement and marketing, with an emphasis on national reputation among peers.
Specifically, this individual serves as the managing editor for Discover.vumc.org, a digital content marketing platform highlighting advances in medical research and clinical care. This individual is responsible for distribution strategies for this content, as well as social media activity to engage and inform physician peers across the country.
This lead communications specialist consults on content and social media strategies to support physician engagement and referral marketing plans.
Reporting to the director of digital content and engagement, this individual will supervise the work of others and manage budgets.
Develop, maintain and implement an ongoing physician-focused content strategy and corresponding editorial calendar aligned with VUMC's strategic objectives and priorities.
Oversee daily operation of Discover.vumc.org and related content distribution activities, including email and social media.
Assign, review and approve work of content producers and coordinators.
Work directly with academic department leaders and other physicians to identify content topics and subject matter experts.
Support physicians in professional content and social media engagement through training, consultation, toolkits and templates.
Collaborate with inter- and intradepartmental colleagues to assure that brand, national reputation, clinical service line and physician marketing priorities are appropriately reflected in editorial content.
Provide senior content strategy support for physician marketing plans.
Using various analytics and measurement tools, continuously improve the reach of and engagement with content in various channels, based on established KPIs.
Provide regular reports to department leadership regarding progress against established metrics.
Prepare and manage annual budgets.
Manage the day-to-day relationship with outside content-marketing contractors.

Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, marketing or related field.
Experience in health, medical or science content.
Collaborative approach and leadership style.
Strong writing and editing skills with work samples to prove it.
7 years or more years of experience in editorial positions, including management of editorial staff and working with photographers, designers, and/or developers.
Strong organizational skills and orientation to detail.
Eager to work as part of a team as well as contribute individually.
Comfort with and ability to work smoothly under deadline.
Experience with WordPress and/or other content management systems.
Experience with email clients, e.g., Marketo, My Emma, Constant Contact, a plus.
Familiarity with web and social media analytics and experience using data to improve content effectiveness.
