In your pivotal, exciting role as Director of Graduate Medical Education (GME), you will provide administrative leadership for the department by coordinating and managing the activities of the GME office, a team responsible for over 1000 residents and fellows in over 100 programs across Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC). You will work closely with the Vice President for Educational Affairs to establish and contribute to the educational mission of VUMC in conjunction with its clinical and research mission.

Working collaboratively with the Chief Business Officer (CBO) for the Office of Health Sciences Education (OHSE) in support of the educational mission of OHSE.
Developing and planning goals and objectives for the GME team based on interpretation of institutional policies, goals, ACGME and other accrediting body requirements for the institution, as well as for the residents and fellows.
Preparing operating and capital expenditure budgets, including salaries, materials and supplies, services, equipment, etc., and defining and achieving financial targets in education in support of the institution and patient care.
Analyzing and evaluating budget variance and adjusting accordingly, working closely with the Department of Finance.
Supervising a team responsible for the onboarding, processing and general needs of VUMC residents and fellows as well as the professional development and guidance of program administrators.
Defining the qualifications and performance expectations for all GME staff positions through the Performance Development system, including department specific job descriptions and measurable performance standards.
Ensuring that all VUMC and relevant local, state, and federal policies are followed, and working closely with VUMC Human Resources, Employee Relations, and a variety of other VUMC offices.
Evaluating organizational functions and structures to best determine the allocation and utilization of resources.
Maintaining national activity and involvement in appropriate societies and organizations for professional development and for program improvement.
Analyzing long-range impact of decisions, plans, and institutional change and maintaining flexibility to adjust policies, procedures, and methods accordingly.
Integrating appropriate emerging technology into administrative GME process.
Participating as an active member in departmental and/or institutional committees to address issues and facilitate information exchange about programs and challenges.
Communicating, via a variety of methods, to appropriate government and regulatory or accrediting bodies, societies, departments, programs, and trainees when necessary.
