The Associate Director for Education and Evaluation (AD/EE) translates new and existing geriatric knowledge and skills into education/training programs to train clinicians new to geriatric care and enhance the skills of seasoned clinicians. Incorporates state-of-the-art research findings into the program and addresses major issues in health care practice and delivery in geriatrics/gerontology. This position is located in the Geriatric Research, Education and Clinical Center (GRECC) at South Texas Veterans Health Care System (STVHCS), San Antonio, TX. While in this position you will coordinate, develop and evaluate aging-related educational programs to improve knowledge and skills of trainees, fellows, and VA employees locally, regionally, and nationally. You will develop multidisciplinary geriatric clinical and didactic curriculum for VAMC staff, GRECC Staff, and trainees which includes physicians, nurses, and allied health workers such as social workers, psychologists, and therapists. Duties of the position include but are not limited to; Identify and develop support mechanisms to underwrite GRECC educational programs. Collaborate with the Associate Director for Clinical Component in instituting and conducting evaluation strategies targeting the clinical demonstration programs. Collaborate with the facility DLO and VISN Education Service Representative, and VISN DLO. Collaborate with academic affiliate, other Federal and non-Federal programs to leverage the resources of multiple partners in the support of programming that serves a shared interest. Serve on appropriate local and VISN level committees whose focus is on supporting locally-developed educational programs. Serve as an ex officio member of the GRECC Advisory Committee, at the discretion of the GRECC Director and Advisory Committee Chair. This position also effectively collaborates with the GRECC Associate Director for Research and GRECC Associate Director for Clinical. Education/Mentoring You will collaborate with the ACOS/Education on Associated Health Trainee and various VA Fellowship programs to ensure that each year a suitable number and mix of trainees. The AD/EE will establish, with a representative of each associated health discipline targeted for training, the division of responsibilities for geriatric rotation design and oversight; provide goals and outcomes for associated health trainees GRECC-related experiences. Ensure clinical rotations through as many of the following as is practical and possible: home care, palliative care, community living centers or nursing homes, Geriatric Evaluation and Management, geriatric primary care, GRECC clinical demonstration activities, and other geriatrics and extended care programs, inpatient geropsychiatry, neuropsychiatry, and rehabilitation settings serving the older Veteran. Presentations You will participate in and oversee the creation, presentation and evaluation of in-service staff education and continuing education activities, these should be GRECC-sponsored and designed to provide a range of mechanisms for disseminating new and established geriatric knowledge to VA medical care professional staff, other staff, and VA staff and other VA staff at other VA medical facilities in the host VISN and nationally. In-Service and Continuing education activities may include, but not be limited to: Journal clubs, grand rounds, case conference, theme or multi-theme-based in-person classes and conferences, video and audio teleconferences, content on demand (CD-ROM, internet-based desktop educational modules), printed materials (information monographs, newsletters, ect.).
