The site navigation utilizes arrow, enter, escape, and space bar key commands. Left and right arrows move across top level links and expand / close menus in sub levels. Up and Down arrows will open main level menus and toggle through sub tier links. Enter and space open menus and escape closes them as well. This position is located in the Sterile Processing Service at the Columbia VA Healthcare System in Columbia, SC, performing all elements of sterilization, preparation, decontamination, high level disinfection (HLD), of reusable medical equipment & distribution support for the medical center while working to carry out daily work utilizing standard operating procedures & manufacturers written instructions based on policies, previous training, or accepted/standard practices. Major duties include but are not limited to: Removing soil, blood, tissue fragments, body fluids and other contaminants by wiping, soaking, rinsing and scrubbing; Inspecting packages for indications of proper sterilization; Cleaning, disinfecting, sterilizing and preparing Reusable Medical Equipment (RME); Preparing, loading, and operating sterilizers; Performing segments of work pertaining to the documentation, sterilization and inspection of reusable medical equipment; Cleaning, visually inspecting, and leak testing all flexible endoscopes and choosing the correct method of reprocessing; Documenting all items highly disinfected utilizing chemical disinfecting agents and checking and documenting efficacy of solution; Disassembling instruments/equipment, removing gross contamination, manually washing instruments, and decontaminating instruments according to manufacturer's instructions for use (MIFU); Determining appropriate method for cleaning, decontamination, and sterilizing of equipment to prevent cross-infection potential while avoiding damage to the equipment; Preparing operating room case carts and placing any missing items on the OR shortage list; Picking-up and transporting soiled RMS and delivering to Decon; Storing, issuing, and maintaining locator records on all SPS cycled equipment; and Advising medical personnel on proper use of equipment. Work Schedule: Full-Time. Shift will be determined at the time of hire and is based on the agency/mission/department needs. All shifts include rotating weekends and holidays.
