We have high expertise in colorectal, hepatobiliary, pancreatic, ENT, urologic, and thoracic surgery. The Staff Hematologist/Oncologist is responsible for providing comprehensive care in the Cancer Center. Duties of this position include but are not limited to: Provide expert consultation and treatment to patients in the outpatient Hematology/Oncology clinic; as well as provide feedback and inpatient consultation with the other services within the Loma Linda VA Medical Center. Evaluate, triage, and prioritize requests from Primary Care providers and others for outpatient Hematology/Oncology subspecialty consultations. Obtain medical histories, conduct physical examinations, order and evaluate appropriate laboratory testing, and plan and prescribe treatment for patients. Coordinate medical management and care with Primary Care providers and other medical personnel in a multidisciplinary health care delivery system. Perform administrative tasks as assigned, such as peer reviews and Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluations (OPPE). Provide Hematology/Oncology on-call services as assigned. Physician will be required to attend staff meetings, serves on committees, teams, workgroups, and peer reviews as requested. Completes CME, VA Training, HIPAA, Security training, and other training mandatory trainings. In additional to the duties listed above the Physician will provide clinical care within the Hematology/Oncology privileges approved by MEC. Ability to perform initial histories and physical examinations on outpatients; make assessments and use appropriate diagnostic evaluations; implement timely and appropriate treatment. Rounding, supervision, and teaching with students, residents, fellows on the inpatient ward as well as outpatient clinic. Covers call rotation with other physicians. Participates in tele-medicine services between the main medical center and the various Community Based Outpatient Clinics. Assist with the diagnosis and interpretation of pulmonary nodules. Counsel and advise patients diagnosed with malignancy. Orders diagnostic studies and interprets laboratory tests, EKGs, and radiologic tests. Provides ongoing outpatient care for assigned case load. Prescribes and refills medications within the defined scope of practice. Provides education and counseling of patients and families. Overseeing Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners.
