The Department of Population Health Sciences (DPHS) within the Geisinger Research Institute is growing and seeks to recruit multiple faculty members to join our multidisciplinary team. The DPHS is embedded in the Geisinger health system, a large integrated health system in Pennsylvania, and the Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine, with a longstanding commitment to research and a research portfolio that includes funding from the NIH, CDC, PCORI, state and foundation grants, and industry. The DPHS faculty includes a strong team of epidemiologists, biostatisticians, behavior scientists, health economists, and clinician researchers. Faculty have access to vast data resources, including longitudinal electronic medical record (EMR) data spanning more than 25 years, claims data, genomic data, and environmental data, and there are also opportunities to lead the evaluation of healthcare interventions in a range of clinical settings. We invite applicants with expertise in a variety of methodological and content areas, as described below in detail.
The DPHS seeks to recruit health economist / health policy faculty whose work focuses on quantitative studies across a range of substantive and/or methodological areas related to population health and healthcare delivery evaluation. The candidate must also have proven expertise in one or more of the following research areas: access to health care and the role of insurance coverage; health outcomes, including the effects of provider payments and delivery system reforms on health care costs and quality; and the impact of health policies on health and health care. Experience in engagement with health insurance organizations is desired.
Directs day-to-day development, maintenance, and supervision of a productive and nationally competitive research program.
Directs and supervises members of the research group providing technical and intellectual leadership.
Identifies the research question, formulates the hypothesis, plans the experiments, records the observations and data, analyzes the data, and draws conclusions.
Prepares and submits applications for external funding from national agencies.
Oversees completion of the specific aims of funded projects.
Prepares completed work for publication.
Publishes/presents research results in both informal and formal seminars within the organization and to extramural audiences at national and international meetings and academic institutions.
Collaborates with other investigators and physicians as well as with investigators from other institutions.
Demonstrates institutional service by participation on committees.
Provides technical assistance in service to other departments, clinical associates, residents, fellows and students.
Begins developing a record of national and international service in the field of expertise by memberships in grant review panels, editorial boards and journal reviews.

Candidates must possess an earned doctorate (e.g., PhD, MD) in related fields for at least one of the content areas. Each position is open rank; however, priority is given to associate and full professor levels. Experience in use and analysis of EMR data is desired for all positions. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a successful, externally-funded research program, either through independent or collaborative projects, and provide service to the health system, their profession, and the community. Appointment at higher levels must show a record of extramural grant funding as a Principal or Co-Investigator and publication of peer-reviewed collaborative research.
