PRMO Established in 2001, Patient Revenue Management Organization (PRMO) is a fully integrated, centralized revenue cycle organization supporting all of Duke Health, including Duke University Hospital, Duke Regional Hospital, Duke Raleigh Hospital, the Private Diagnostic Clinic, and Duke Primary Care. The PRMO focuses on streamlining the revenue cycle through enhanced management of scheduling, registration, coding, HIM operations, billing, collections, cash management, and customer service. The Associate Vice President - Billing & Collections, Self-pay, Pre-Service Verification and Customer Service (AVP) of the Patient Revenue Management Organization (PRMO) reports to the Vice President, Finance/Chief Operating Office of the PRMO and is responsible for the direction and oversight of the following units within the PRMO: Professional and Hospital billing and collections, Self-Pay, Pre-Service Verification, Customer Service and Payer Relations. The AVP coordinates with the other two PRMO AVPS, staff and stakeholders throughout Duke Health to ensure that all operational revenue management functions are aligned and optimized to meet or exceed patient requirements, maximize cash collections, and minimize cost to collect. In addition, the AVP plays a key role in setting and advancing the strategic vision and culture of the PRMO.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Provide direct oversight to four directors with approximately 400 exempt and non-exempt staff (most working remote) providing services related to billing, collections, customer service, pre-service verification and payer relations. Additionally, provide oversight and management of outsourcing vendor relationships providing approximately 325 FTE's in support of all functions noted above.

Operate within a highly matrixed environment and build strong working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including leaders within the administrative, clinical and payer environments.
Collaborate with the PRMO senior leadership team in setting the strategic vision for the PRMO and communicating that vision to Duke Health senior leadership, peers, stakeholders and direct reports
Ensure compliant billing of patient services while minimizing lost revenue and cost to collect
Oversee a patient-focused call center receiving approximately 1,500 phone calls daily from patients requiring assistance with revenue cycle concerns
Support a diverse and inclusive PRMO culture in which all employees have a shared vision/purpose and sense of belonging
Create a learning environment in which direct reports and staff are actively developed/coached and experience personal and professional growth
Maintain current knowledge on legal, regulatory and contractual requirements/changes related to professional and hospital billing and pre-service verification requirements
Maintain "best practice" and leverage technology to introduce innovation and reduce costs.
Proactively work with commercial payers to minimize denials and reduce Days in Accounts Receivable Outstanding.
Ten years of progressive management and/or consulting experience in a healthcare environment is required, of which 5 of those years should be in management of people or projects. Extensive experience interacting with commercial payers, physician leadership and "C-level" hospital administration is required.
Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification:
None required. Past or present certification with Epic is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Technical: Advanced understanding of all revenue cycle functions and interrelationships. Experience with Epic is strongly preferred. Non-Technical: Strong leadership presence and skills. Proven capabilities in building and leading teams. Ability to work with others in a cooperative, collaborative manner. Strong written and oral communication skills.
