Responsible for the development, implementation, and coordination of a broad range of activities that sustain ongoing awareness of compliance and organization-wide regulatory requirements. This roll will work in tandem with the Corporate Compliance team and Member Organizations in the development and implementation of the University of Maryland Medical System's ("UMMS") Corporate Compliance and Business Ethics Program with specific focus on compliance and ethics education, regulatory monitoring, auditing, and change management.

Principal Responsibilities and Tasks

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. These are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified.

1. Maintains a current working knowledge of Maryland state and federal regulations/policies and proactively monitors and interprets existing and proposed legislation and regulations in collaboration with the Legal and Government Affairs Programs for UMMS.
2. Identifies areas of risk requiring the establishment or enhancement of internal controls, policies and procedures, products and/or services, and training associated with any compliance obligations.
3. Responsible for collaborating with other departments to ensure the implementation of required regulatory changes.
4. Develops, updates, collaborates, and implements compliance policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. These policies and procedures provide regulatory and legal standards and recommendations for use in day-to-day operations.
5. Develops and maintains compliance training related to the corporate compliance, privacy, and research compliance programs.
6. Conducts or directs periodic department or lines of service audits to assess regulatory compliance with company policies, state and federal laws and regulations.
7. Manages the tasks associated with the following operations of the Corporate Compliance and Ethics Group: Compliance Auditing and Monitoring, Compliance Awareness, Education and Communication, Compliance Governance Processes.
8. Involved in ongoing projects which may include, but are not limited to:
   • System standardization efforts, implementation of software applications, and/or strategic input for new service lines and technologies;
   • Collaborating with leadership and initiating governance and compliance processes around emerging areas of compliance concerns;
   • Working with departmental leadership to create and execute the annual compliance education and training work plan;
   • Representing compliance, providing guidance, and collaborating with organizational business leaders to implement new or modified programs; and
   • Developing templates on specific topics for use in Member Organization communications and for auditing and monitoring, policy development, education, etc.
9. Mentor and guide Compliance Analysts.
10. Perform other duties as assigned.
